(pronounced Ah-mah-tae) Derived from the Native American Nahuatl “AMATL”, short for amacuahuitl,paper tree from amatl, meaning paper + cuahuitl, meaning tree. This paper made, from tree bark, has been produced by Mexico’s indigenous peoples since at least the eleventh century. Used in religious ceremonies and for important manuscripts, it holds deep cultural significance. After the Conquest, the Spaniards introduced European paper to the country and banned amate. In remote villages high in the Sierra Madre Oriental, the Otomí people kept the amate-making tradition alive.

September 4th 7:30 PM: Outdoor Movie Night: Come and socialize with others. Meet new people. Bring chairs and snacks. Must RSVP! Free event.
September 5th Saturday: Introduction to Reiki: With Reiki Master Osvaldo Soto. 1 PM Learn the basics of Reiki and what it can do for you. This hour-long course will answer most of your questions. $30.00, if you choose to take Reiki 1, you will receive $15.00 credit on Reiki 1. RSVP.
September 9th Wednesday, 5:00 PM: Smudging, blessing and sageing yourself and your home. Learn many ways to bless and protect yourself and your home by smudging. Materials included. $15.00.
